    Speed RacerSpeed Racer (2008)

    IMDB rating: 6.60

Plot: Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized-the legendary Rex Racer - whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer, the designer of Speed’s thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company’s maniacal owner but uncovers a terrible secret-some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won’t drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family’s business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie, Speed teams with his one-time rival-the mysterious Racer X - to win the race that had taken his brother’s life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.

Should I see A Christmas Carol in IMAX?
I saw Harry Potter and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs at the Imax. With Harry Potter, it was OBVIOUS that the IMAX was better, because the film went to the ceiling in the IMAX part. The Cloudy movie to me just seems like any old 3d movie on could see at the Mall for much cheaper because the film did not go all the way to the ceiling, just like a letterbox over those old square screens people used to have as televisions back in the day before wide screen tv.

Am I missing something? Other than the sound system, is there really a good reason to see A Christmas Carol in the Imax theatre?? Its a lot more expensive….

PS I saw Speed Racer at Imax too, and it seemed like a cheap ripoff letter box deal too unlike Harry Potter which seemed to be TRUE imax film

Well i love IMAX movies…. so i think you should give it a try…

I’ve been told the film itself is surprisingly good. I would only see it in an Imax theatre if it is one with a really gigantic screen. All Imax theatres, even the smaller ones in chains like AMC or Regal, are true Imax (they use Imax projectors, not just a bigger screen like some people say), but some people really have a problem when the screen it not 5 stories tall. Take that into consideration.

The difference between an Imax and regular film is that Imax movies are filmed with specific cameras that enable HD viewing and can translate onto a larger screen. The sound quality is better, and the theatre seating is arranged specifically to accommodate the screen size and sound system.

So, yeah, as long winded as that was, I would only see it if the screen size was substantial. Otherwise, I would imagine that a regular screen would probably suffice. The story itself is apparently good enough to be carried without the Imax technology anyway.

A Christmas Carol is best seen in the widescreen/letterbox format, in digital 3D—that’s the way it was designed to be seen by its makers.
The IMAX image, though huge, isn’t that much of an improvement on the picture.
Save your bucks and see it on the standard screen.
